Google Labs Announces a Redesign and Two New Innovations

Google Labs announced a series of news today. Starting with a new URL — www.googlelabs.com — boasting a newly redesigned site built on the Google App Engine and including handy features like an RSS feed and iGoogle Gadgets, the team also announced the release of new functionality in two of Google’s other properties: Similar Images and Google News Timeline.

Have you ever tried to find an image but weren’t sure how to describe what you were looking for? Often times the results that come back cover an array of options. But if one of them is close, you can now tell Google to narrow the search based on your favorite of the results that came back the first time. See this video for details:

Google News Timeline

Are you looking for a timeline of Presidential quotes? Or what about a timeline of the baseball season news photos? Whether you are looking for headlines, quotes, photos (from Google’s Hosted News partners), or YouTube videos, Google’s new Timeline feature in Google News now offers you a whole new way to look at events over time.

You can also add in results from Google Blog Search, Google News Archive Search and Google Book Search.

The Google Labs team promises more to come soon, so keep an eye out.
